Discussion on Computer Hardware Trainings
Yatiraja Ramanuja Trust in Malleswaram had joined hands with our Ashram to talk about Computer Hardware Training.
Surabhi is a platform to explore and exhibit latent talents in young women. Girls living with parents are fortunate to get the necessary attention to pave way for the identification of their unexplored talents. It is seldom possible in the Ashrama. Hence we are evolving a system wherein we explore the talents latent in the residents. The elders in the Ashrama closely watch the residents while they are performing in any program. This enables the Ashrama elders to learn about the resident's talents and arrange to train them in the art. We have arrangements to train them in music, acting, Yakshagana, anchoring, yoga, karate, mime,...etc.
Sankalpa is an initiative of Abalashrama for documentation of events and programs. To fulfill this object, the Ashrama brings out a quarterly newsletter Sankalpa to give periodic updates about activities related to the Ashrama. It highlights women's issues and focuses on women who have achieved awards in various fields.
The Ashram has a center for facilitating job-placement for needy women and girls. Abalashrama conducts job fairs regularly because it is a unique networking opportunity that puts many different employers under one roof to network with potential employees, usually over just one day. Job fairs can put participants on the fast-track to gaining a job, help companies fill vacancies and solve workforce issues in the community. To organize a successful job fair, one has to cater to both the job seeker and the company looking for prospective employees. Soubhagya is an initiative of Abalashrama under the employability programs. Through this Centre, we hope to contribute to the efforts of the National Skill Development Mission and we aim to provide a meeting ground for industry requirements and the aspirations of unemployed youth. We urge people to spread awareness about this program so that more candidates can benefit from it.
Counseling has been a part of Ashram's day-to-day affair. Its role was restricted to minimum conversation with the guidance to the residents. It was when new blood was infused into the Ashram's administration, counseling became a little formal with enlarged scope. At that time a few Governing council members undertook a course in "Counselling and Guidance" organized by Prasanna Counselling Centre run by HINDU SEVA PRATHISHTANA. It was useful in understanding and handling the residents. It was when the new well-planned building was completed and dedicated 2 rooms were made available for Counselling, a formal center started functioning. This was an initiative of Abalashrama and was named 'SANTVANA' meaning Solace. Many counselors from Hindu Seva Prathishtana and other volunteers pitched in to offer counseling services.
The Ashrama manages a full-fledged marriage facilitating center for orphaned, handicapped and destitute girls. The center is for anyone who finds it difficult to get married including boys (Grooms). After the resident finishes studies and is ready for marriage the Ashrama takes the responsibility of finding a suitable groom for her. We try to "Groom" her by talking to her, by counseling her and finally, preparing her mind to accept family life. The first and foremost factor the Ashrama scrutinizes is the personality of the prospective groom concerned. Then the character of the groom will have to be vouched by the most reliable (relative/family friends) well-wisher of the bride’s family or verified diligently by the parents themselves. Abalashrama has conducted scores of marriages to date. The President/Secretary of the institution shall perform kanyadaan and the marriage is conducted as per Arya Samaj rituals by default. We try to make the Groom understand that he will hold the girl's
The primary activity of Ashram is Suraksha which offers shelter, protection. They will be given an option for a second marriage and also women with dependent children. She is allowed to study/get trained in any vocation/ get employed. She can stay till she becomes self-reliant. The residents go to different colleges, classes, and courses after they join the Ashrama.
The Ashram has a Multi Skill Development center for training underprivileged girls and women from outside Ashram apart from its residents. Abalashrama aims to train enterprising, deprived and deserving women and make them self-reliant. Now we have free training programs such as 'Tailoring' - in a new name 'Fashion Technology', Beauty and Health care, Computer skills, Hospital services, Photography, 4-wheeler Driving, Commercial Cookery, Spoken English and Life Skills. MSDC creates a congenial atmosphere for its training programs. It has a well-trained staff too. Motivational sessions are often held to boost the morale of trainees. All the training programs are equipped with needed types of equipment. Now Swavalambana is taking a big leap. It is joining hands with the Ministry of Skill Development, GOI, under PMKK (Prime minister Kaushal Kendra) and imparting skill training in several computer-based job roles.
The Ashram has a sales outlet SAPHALYA to facilitate marketing of products made by residents and also by enterprising women outside the Ashrama. There are many women artisans who live in Karnataka's little towns and villages and churn out masterpieces with their hands, but fail to find the visibility they deserve. Saphalya supports marketing their products. The products should be made by them. They will get the full price for the product without any cuts or commission.

ABALASHRAMA & FOUNDERS
Abalashrama organization was founded in the year 1905. We are proud to mention that Late Sri Chakaravathy Venkatavarada lyengar paved the way for establishing Abalashrama at the dawn of the 20th century by marrying Smt Krishnamma, a childhood widow. The noble ideals of Arya Samaj, his personal zeal for helping deprived women, and the support he received from his life partner sowed the seeds for this unique institution. Having resolved to make a beginning, the couple converted their own modest home into a sanctuary for abandoned women in 1905.
At present the Abalashrama houses more than 100 residents, aged 16 to 25. Many of them have participated in contests in their colleges and other institutions and have won various laurels. These children express a deep interest in the arts, commerce, computer courses and the administration of the Abalashrama has initiated programs aimed at choosing education of their choice and help them develop their artistic skills.
